Frequently Asked Questions
Why homebound service?
The library’s mission is to offer access to quality materials and
programs to
assist community residents of all ages in meeting their personal,
educational and professional information needs. This new program lets
us fulfill our mission and serve the community better by offering our
services to residents who, for various reasons, are unable to visit the
library.
Do I need to be a Goffstown resident to receive homebound
services?
Yes. Due to limited resources, we cannot offer our services to
non-resident card-holders, or to members of other libraries who
participate in the common borrower card program.
What can I borrow?
We can deliver books, movies, magazines and audio books right
to
your
home. The only materials we cannot deliver to homebound patrons are
Hillstown videos, which normally circulate for two days.
How do I know I will get materials I enjoy?
Before bringing materials to your home a member of the library
staff
will call to schedule a home or phone interview. At our first meeting
we will discuss areas of interest which will help us better understand
what types of authors and books you prefer.
When will you be visiting?
Once we have met with you to discuss what you like
we will schedule a time to visit your home to deliver materials.
Midway through your loaning period a library staff member will contact
you to see what items you may be interested in the next time we visit.
How long may I borrow the items you bring me?
The lending period for all items through the homebound program
is 4
weeks. You can renew your materials once as long as no other patrons
are waiting for them.
Is there any charge associated with homebound service?
No. Our service is free. Also, since we schedule pickup of
materials, you cannot accrue overdue charges. You are responsible,
however, for any loss or damages to library materials you borrow.
How do I sign up?
If you or somebody you know are interested in receiving homebound
service, please call the library at 497-2102 and ask for Sharon. If you
know somebody who might be eligible for homebound service who
doesn't have Internet access but is interested in learning more, you
may give them this printable
brochure.
If your computer does not already have Adobe Acrobat, download a free
version of Acrobat Reader to view the brochure.
What is the Talking Books Program?
The Talking Book Program provides books and magazines on cassette
for New Hampshire residents who cannot see, handle or process printed
material comfortably. Participants receive cassettes in the mail, and
return postage is free. This service is available through the New Hampshire
State Library. Visit their Library Services
to Persons with Disabilities page for more information.
